1.3.1.5 Amelia Ann Kessler Yaste (b:10 Feb 1815-d: 14 Feb 1859 Frederick, Md.)

Amelia (10 Feb 1815-14 Feb 1859), daughter of Andrew and May, married George Yaste (abt. 1808-abt. 1859) on 29 Oct 1833 at the age of 18 and bore seven children, most of whom remained in Maryland. Amelia died on Valentine’s Day, 1859, just after her 44th birthday and is buried in the Jefferson United Methodist Church Cemetery.

When Census digitized they listed his name as Ambrud Kuter (can you believe it – government employees!!!!), but the handwriting is crystal clear and says Andrew Kesler.

Amelia and George had seven children, all of whom were lifelong Maryland residents.

1.3.1.5.1 James Thomas Yaste (31 Oct 1835-30 Jul 1915) was born in Jefferson, Frederick County, Maryland. He served in the Civil War, enlisting on 18 Jul 1862 as a private in Company E, 8th Regiment of the Maryland Infantry, and serving until he was discharged as a corporal on 31 May 1865 when the unit was disbanded. James married Harriet ‘Hattie’ Reese Jones, a widow with one child, on 14 Feb 1875 in Warren, Indiana. Hattie’s daughter, Mary E. Jones was born in 1869. She and James had two sons: George Leonard Yaste (14 Sep 1879-14 Sep 1950) and Elias Reese Yaste (1883-1940).

They had two children: Laura Brandenburg Long (Aug 1852-18 May 1936) and Florence ‘Flora’ Elizabeth Brandenburg Moore (13 Dec 1856-23 Apr 1939 Indiana).

1.3.1.5.3 Charles Milton Yaste (20 May 1837-8 Mar 1912) married Laura P. Crum (abt. 1842-abt. 1876) on 17 Mar 1864 in Frederick, Md. and they had two children: Harry G. Yaste (Oct. 1866-Aft. 1940) and Olivia L. ‘Ollie’ Yaste Kaufman (13 Oct 1871-24 Dec 1942 Baltimore, Md). Then he married Emily Jane Brueneisen (23 Feb 1844-28 Aug 1931 Maryland) in 1876 and they had two more children: Grace A. Yaste (20 Jul 1877-30 Apr 1881) and Maurice Yaste (16 Dec 1880-26 Mar 1883 Frederick County, Md.).

1.3.1.5.4 Amanda Ellen Yaste Roderick (Apr. 1838-11 Jun 1902) married William Washington Roderick (1837-14 Aug 1917) in 1860. They did not have children and lived primarily in Washington, D.C. after the Civil War. In 1905, at age 69 and three years after Amanda’s death, William was admitted to the US National Homes for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers in Johnson City, Tennessee.

    • 1870: Jefferson, Frederick County, Md (7/38 25 Jul) George Yeast 26 (work in factory), living with Chilcote family that makes woolens.

    • 1900-1920: Not found. There are a number of George Yaste named people living in Frederick County, but the ages do not match. There is also a George Yaste living with the Howard family in Washington DC in 1910 and he is listed as a cousin working for the RR, but there is no way to confirm this entry.

1.3.1.5.6 Elizabeth Yaste (Abt. 1845-Aft. 1850) There is little information about Elizabeth other than an entry in the 1850 U.S. Census for her at age 5. Either she died young or she married, taking a different last name.

1.3.1.5.7 Calvin Page Yaste (21 Jun 1847-27 Oct 1866). Served as Private in 11th Maryland Infantry, Company E from 2 Jun 1864 to 28 Sep 1864 (100 days). Enlisted again on 21 Oct 1864 and mustered out 15 Jun 1865. Died at 19 years of age — not sure if death was related to military service. He was buried at Jefferson United Methodist Cemetery.
