Dorothy was the fifth child and fourth daughter of Edgar F. Kessler Sr. and Elizabeth Moore. She was born on 7 Mar 1931, at the height of the Great Depression. Her siblings were eight years old or younger.
Dorothy is included in the 1940 US Census. The family lived at 829 W. Cross Street, Baltimore City, Md. Edgar, age 40, was working as a paperhanger. Elizabeth was 32 years old, and the children were: Clara 17, Edgar Jr. 16, Margaret 13, Helen 10, Dorothy 9, George 4, and Charles 2.
By 1950, according to the 1950 US Census, she was living with her mother and stepfather, Richard Alte. They lived at 1111 East Homberg, Baltimore, Md. The following were included in this census: Richard Alte, Elizabeth Alte (married), Dorothy Kessler 19, George Kessler 14, Charles Kessler 12. Dorothy’s father, Ed was recorded as follows: 1950 US Census, 2421 W. Lexington St., Baltimore City, Md. (Apr 10) Edgar Kessler 50 (lodger, paperhanger, divorced).
Dorothy married Charles John Huth (27 Aug 19271-3 Mar 2007) in 1951 and they had one daughter, Karen S. Huth (Davis) (13 Sep 1952). According to Karen, Dorothy left she and her father, which left Karen resentful of her mother.
Dorothy visited our family on a number of occasions. She was intelligent and carried herself with grace.
At age 62 Dorothy married Carmel B. Whetzel, on 18 Jun 1993 in Snow Hill, Maryland.
Dorothy died on 4 Apr 2009 in Winchester, Virginia.
